Best Places To Visit During Your Stay

Olde Inverness Antiques

There is a wonderful store, Olde Inverness Antiques, located in the heart of Inverness, right near the picturesque courthouse. It is the site of many an antique fair and is worth special mention since we always find something special when we visit.

The historic courthouse located in the heart of Inverness is a museum, and there are many shops and restaurants located nearby. There are farmer's markets on the weekends and different festivals and fairs depending on the time of year.

Another great natural experience can be had at Fort Cooper State Park. There are 5 miles of trails near Lake Holathlikaha and Fort Cooper itself to be discovered just south of Inverness.

You might not guess that spelunking would be possible here in Central Florida, but it is! The small system located just south of Lecanto is called the Dames Caves. They are some of the oldest caves in Florida formed long ago when this region was under sea level. They are integral to our aquifer system, but these caves won't be around forever; sediment washed in from rainstorms has been slowing filling the caves. You can get a preview of them in this news video as they head into the caves.
